LOOKING AHEAD TO THE WORLD FEDERATION OF ROSE SOCIETIES REGIONAL CONVENTION IN KOLKATA, 9TH TO 12TH JANUARY, 2020 IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BENGAL ROSE SOCIETY AND THE AGRI HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY OF INDIA, CELEBRATING ITS 200 ANNIVERSARY.
It is with great excitment that the World Federation of Rose Societies looks forward to the forthcoming Regional Convention to be staged in the historical city of Kolkata. This will be only the third Regional Rose Convention to be held in India under the auspices of the WFRS and the Indian Rose Federation.
Kolkata, of course, played such an fundimental role in the history of the rose and its peregrinations around the globe, most particularly from Asia towards Europe and the western world, bringing with it many of those characteristics indispensible to modern roses as we know them today.
Participants to the Regional Convention will have the opportunity to visit the famous Indian Botanic Garden on the banks of the Hooghly, founded in1787, as well as the gardens of the prestigeous AHSI in the city’s centre, but also the historical buildings dating from the time of Calcutta as capital of the English Raj.
Pre and post tours to present-day rose nurseries’ cultivating grounds near Kolkata, to Odissa and the Darjeeling area beneath the roof of the world are being organized.
World reknown speakers have been invited to present a great variety of subjects encompassing practically the entire history of botany and the rose in India from ancient times to the present day.
The World Federation of Rose Societies is expecting an exceptional international turnout to this prestigeous event and anticipate a glorious celebration of 200 years of horticulture in India.
